TAX NOTEBOOK
STEPS TO FOLLOW & OTHER HELPFUL TIPS

  1. Once you have received your USER ID and PASSWORD, please read the following instructions and click on the correct Office Location login link on the BPM website(http://www.bpmcpa.com). After entering your USER ID and PASSWORD, you will be taken to your personal Tax Notebook. If we prepared your taxes last year, all of your 2008 data will be provided. If you are a new client this year, you will see only your name and social security number.
  2. Complete the Tax Notebook with your personal information and all relevant 2009 tax data. Please note the following while completing the Tax Notebook:

a.       There are tabs along the top of the “notebook” as well as an "option bar".

b.      If you answer “Yes” to any of the questions within the Tax Notebook system, you will notice additional items will appear on the "option bar". All of the tabs and "option bar" items must be filled out in order for your personal Tax Notebook to be complete.

c.       While the tab is partially complete, you will see a red arrowhead. Once the particular “tab” has been completed, you will see a red check mark alongside the tab’s name.

d.      Use the "continue" button on your screen to move through the notebook and add detail or answer additional questions.

e.       If you have significant stock sales for which you or your broker have prepared a detailed schedule, simply input within Tax Notebook the totals from the schedule for gross proceeds and cost basis, and send the schedule to your BPM contact for attachment to your tax return.

f.        If you have additional tax issues that you would like to tell us about and you cannot locate an appropriate spot within the Tax Notebook, please add such information to the “note” section of Tax Notebook (located on the right side of your screen under [Tools]) or submit written documentation with the other hardcopy information you send to BPM.

  1. At any time during the process of completing your Tax Notebook, you can "check your status" by clicking on the button on the right side of your screen under [Tools].
  2. When the status reads complete (100%), or when you feel you've entered all pertinent information, you can click on "Send Tax Notebook to Firm". This will lead you through several screens and will ultimately notify us via an automatic email that your infomation is complete and ready to be uploaded to our main tax software. Before you begin submitting your data, please go through the checklist, located on the right side of your screen. This will indicate data that you should send to us, either via fax or usps mail. If we were not involved with your 2008 tax returns, please forward a copy of the federal and state returns you filed along with the current year hard-copy information requested.
  3. The due date to complete information in the Tax Notebook is March 15, 2010. Information received after that date may require that we file an extension on your behalf.
  4. Once we have received your data file, we will notify you via e-mail that it has been successfully uploaded to our tax system. Please Note: Once you have finalized your Tax Notebook, if you find that you need to make changes or if you have additional information, simply e-mail or send us hardcopy of these changes/additions and BPM will incorporate them into your tax returns.
  5. BPM will process your return, contacting you for any additional information needed or unanswered questions via e-mail or telephone.
  6. Your 2009 tax return will be mailed to the address shown on your tax return unless you fill out the section of Tax Notebook which asks for an alternate mailing address (to do this check the box that you have an alternate address and click continue to be taken to the next page allowing an entry for the alternate mailing address.
